Tire Description

The Eagle F1 GS is Goodyear's Ultra High Performance Summer tire developed for sports cars, muscle cars and sport trucks. The Eagle F1 GS is designed to blend wet and dry traction with treadwear. However like all summer tires, Eagle F1 GS tires are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. The Eagle F1 GS molds Goodyear's AATRAX tread compound into a directional tread design. Large shoulder blocks, continuous center ribs and a multi-radius profile offer confident steering and uniform wear while race-bred, dual Aquachannels help provide efficient water evacuation to promote wet traction. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wound nylon overlays and an angled ply carcass combine disturbance-free operation with high-speed durability. These were the original tires that came with my 1998 Trans Am WS6, size 275/40-ZR17 on all four wheels. I thought these tires were just awesome. They were very responsive and predictable. They had tons of grip. Of course the Trans Am WS6 had tons of torque so you can easily steer the car with the throttle if you give it a good amount of gas in the turns. But you knew exactly when the tire was going to slide and once you let up on the throttle a bit it would slide right back heading straight again, just like it should. No drama and no fuss. Tons of cornering stability, straight line acceleration, braking grip, and control. Traction in the rain was equally impressive. I had been caught in a couple monster down pours and even at 75 mph I had no concerns in the rain at all. I would have liked to have seen a bit more off-the-line traction when I would dump the clutch from the light. But I'm not sure how much better other tires would have been when your producing 425 lb/ft of torque. I got exactly 24,000 miles out of my set before they hit the tread wear indicators. I rotated them once every 6,000 miles. Given the performance of the tires and my driving style, I would say they were spot on with the amount of miles I expected to get out of them.
