Ultra High Performance Summer tires are for driving enthusiasts who want a combination of a performance appearance, crisp handling and Z-speed rated (or higher) durability along with dry and wet traction. Often used as Original Equipment (O.E.) on sports cars, performance coupes and high performance sedans, Ultra High Performance Summer tires are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. O.E. Ultra High Performance Summer tires are typically purchased as direct replacements for worn-out pairs/sets of the vehicle’s original tires. They can also be used for other vehicle applications in complete sets of four or axle pairs if available in an appropriate size, load range and speed rating to match the existing O.E. tires’ performance category and specifications.

The Gatorback has been a good tire for my Mustang. They are original equipment and I bought a new set when the first set wore out. The originals lasted about 40,000 miles and still gave good wet traction even when they were worn down to the wearbars. I've read some reviews stating these tires were terrible in the rain. I have not had any problems. The wear is even and the handling consistent with them. I respectfully wonder if those who have problems in the wet might have them mounted backwards. I only say this because I have seen it! There was even a GT convertible sitting on a local Ford lot that had the Gatorbacks mounted backwards (with the directional tread facing the wrong way). That would certainly give you dangerous handling on wet roads! I do not race but I like to corner hard and these tires do a great job. I imagine there are better options for those who do race. I have about 20,000 miles on this second set and they show very little wear. They will easily last 40,000 miles. Overall I've been happy with this tire and they look great.
