Tire Description

The Marathon Radial is Goodyear's special purpose trailer tire designed specifically for use on travel trailers, pop-up campers, boat trailers and fifth wheel trailers used for hauling everything from race horses to racecars. The Marathon Radial was developed to make towing a trailer more enjoyable and more economical while making it easier to take your big "toys" with you on the weekends. Special purpose trailer tires are not intended to be used on cars or light trucks. On the outside, the Marathon Radial features a rounded profile to enhance ride quality, and a symmetric tread design with a solid center rib to provide constant rubber-to-road contact that delivers dependable highway stability, traction and long lasting wear. Internally, the Marathon Radial features twin steel belts (with selected sizes reinforced with nylon cap plies) that stabilize the tread to increase traction and durability. The Marathon Radial features a polyester cord body to help smooth out the trailer's ride. Special purpose trailer tires are not UTQG rated.

Pulled travel trailer from Indiana to Washington to Oregon. Several trips throughout Oregon and then Oregon to SoCal. I've messed with the rest...and this is the best tire...period. Trailer is 11,500 loaded and 9000 dry. No issues. You should watch your speed. I rarely go over 65, but down the grapevine speed got up to 80 and some passing situations and other downhills. Really wishing I had a exhaust brake for the trip down the grapevine. Anyway, watch your speed as best you can. They are rated at 65, but don't go above for sustained periods. And follow Goodyear recommendations. When trailer sits for more than a month, OVER inflate tires by 20% - 25%. Reduce pressure to normal when your ready to go. Check tires monthly for pressure and cover them if you can. Keep them from sitting in wet conditions. Elevate the tires off the ground or in a well drained area. Elevation (altitude)affects pressure, so know your route and the elevations your going to hit if there are going to be some major changes. It's about 1 psi per 2ooo ft. So if your at sea level and the gauge reads 30psi and you go up to 6000 ft, with the same gauge at the same temperature, it will read 33psi. Also, inflation pressure is COLD. Temperature affects pressure. About 1 psi per 1o degrees outside temperature. Don't throw a gauge on them after driving on them and then inflate to recommened COLD inflation pressures or after one side of the vehicle has been sitting in the sun and the other in the shade. Black tires absorb heat so inflation pressures will be different for each side. They are designed to handle the "working" pressures. Do some research, follow the recommendations. My tires were made in China, but they are rated to Goodyear USA standards. Not the same as China made tires in other brands. These tires issues are due to a lack of knowledge, not the tire.
