The Ultra Grip Performance is Goodyear's European-inspired Performance Winter tire developed for the drivers of sport cars, coupes and sedans who don't want to abandon performance in winter. Ultra Grip Performance tires are designed to enhance traction and control in snow, slush and on ice while maintaining traction and handling in cold temperatures when roads stay dry and clear. The Ultra Grip Performance benefits from Goodyear's advanced polymer technology that provides a winter tread compound with a unique surface texture. This compound is molded into an asymmetric tread pattern that features shoulder stabilizers to enhance control on dry roads, while its asymmetrical center zone provides traction on slippery surfaces. The tread design uses three-dimensional TredLock Technology sipes that lock together to enhance dry and wet road handling while providing the biting edges needed to grip packed snow and ice without resorting to traditional metal studs. The tire's internal structure uses twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped polyamide on top of a polyester carcass to combine highway durability with a smooth ride. All Ultra Grip Performance tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements and are branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol. Ultra Grip Performance tires feature winter wear indicators to identify when the remaining tread depth remains suitable to provide beneficial snow performance. Install Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance tires in sets of four only. Due to the traction capabilities of the Ultra Grip Performance tires, Goodyear recommends using Ultra Grip Performance tires only in sets of four to provide the best handling characteristics and tire performance.

Some background: I have never driven an AWD car before and had never drive on snow tires before either. I have always driven a FWD car. This is my first time owning an AWD car with snow tires. The car came with summer performace tires and there was no way I was going to make it through a Buffalo winter on it. I bought this tire as part of a package from Tire Rack (18" Wheels with tires). The recommended size was 17" but I decided to go with OE specs. So far I have driven my first 1k miles on this tire. Buffalo had its first major snowfall this year. There was a good inch on the ground when I left for work this morning. So I decided to give these tires a whirl. It had good cornering stability, this coupled with the 4motion haldex all-wheel drive system and ESP of the R32. Stopping was also not an issue, but if you slam on the brakes, the ABS will take over. Starting from a stop at a light was a breeze. I accelerated with my pedal halfway to the floor and the ESP did not even kick in. The tires were responsive when changing lanes on light snow going approx 55mph. The dry traction was a little lacking though (as compared to the summer performance). Driving in heavy rain and through standing water did not pose any issue. Hydroplanning was little to none. All in all, these tires performed extremely well relative to its cost. In light snow, it was like driving on rails. I have never felt more safe driving in snow. Price vs. cost - looking for affordable 'n good, this tires are the ones to get. This is my first review and I will follow up with another at the end of winter. We will see how these babies hold up. I am planning on doing a lot of snowboarding this season so there will be plenty of time to test the tires out in deep snow.
